2nd Annual Paddle for A Cause
|
The 2nd Annual Paddle for A Cause will take place on May 31, 2009. The contestants will begin at the WonderBar on the bay in Atlantic City at the base of the Albany Avenue Bridge. Contestants will begin paddling North or South from there (depending on the tide) around ALL of Absecon Island and return to the WonderBar to a reception of friends and family at the WonderBar.
The contestants are raising money by seeking donations "per mile" for their efforts. Last year's event raised thousands of dollars. The event was moved from hurricane season to late spring in an effort to avoid the overhead hurricane surf the paddlers battled all day last year (especially in the inlets). We are expecting much more suitable conditions this year for the event.
All are invited to the reception and entry is a suggested donation of your choice. The reception will begin at 2:00 pm and we hope to see you there.
I want to thank Trustee, Mike May for creating and organizing this event. I would also like to thank all of the madmen who participated last year and are participating this year. You truly have a screw loose and know no boundaries when it comes to helping the Foundation. |

Freeze for a Cause Big Success Despite No Surf
|
The 2009 Freeze for A Cause recap goes something like this:
We got to the beach Saturday at 6:00 am and it was around 10 degrees with 35 mph Offshore winds and the surf was DEAD flat!!!! We had to make the call and cancel the surf contest. It was unfotunate, but probably saved alot of co-pays to the doctors office.
Anyway we spent the day prepping for the evening's festivities. The doors opened at 6:00 pm and in about an hour the place was packed!!! The night was a HUGE success even with the contest being axed. After all was said and done the generosity of those that attended raised over $8,000 for the Foundation!! Not bad for a night of drinking I would say!
Thank you to all who attended and parted with your hard earned money, especially in this economic climate. Your generosity was overwhelming. With your continued support next year will be bigger and better!!!
A special thanks to Sam and Louise Hammer for donating the beer and for the use of the Crab's Claw in Lavallette. Also, a huge thank you to Sam's sister Shannon for all her had work.
Last, but definitely not least, thank you to our event sponsors and donors who really came through with some fantastic prizes. PLEASE SUPPORT THOSE WHO SUPPORT US!!
